Lady Hawks Fall to Columbus State Cougars

LADY HAWKS FALL TO COLUMBUS STATE COUGARS

Nelsonville, Ohio

The Hocking College women's basketball team (4-19) played host to OCCAC foe Columbus State on Saturday and fell to the Cougars 98-53. 

Down by just 10 at the half, Columbus State overpowered the Lady Hawks in the second half holding them to just 8 made field goals in the second half and forcing 10 second half turnovers. 

"It was another devastating second half of play for us today" stated Hocking College Head Coach, Ron Conner. "The ladies put forth a valiant effort in the first two quarters against a really tough Columbus State team. Again the size and strength of our opponent wore us down in the second half and allowed them to walk away with the win."

Columbus State was led in scoring by Carli Codner-Pinto with 23 points on 9-16 shooting from the field and 3-6 from behind the arc. She was followed in scoring by a trio of Cougars all notching double-doubles, Keyvona Davis (20 points and 21 rebounds), Hunter Kershaw (19 points and 10 rebounds), and Antishay Rahim (11 points and 22 rebounds). 

Hocking College was led by sophmore guard Brandy Merritt, with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. Merritt was followed in scoring by Macy McCollister (12), Jena Cozad (11), Kylie Jettinghoff (9), and Alison Bray and Chelsie Kotlar with 2 points a piece. 

The Lady Hawks will return to action on Wednesday when they play host to the Surge of Cincinnati State at 5:30 p.m.
