Commodores Bounce Back Against Hocking; Travel to Edison State on Wednesday

October 17, 2021 - The Lorain County Community College volleyball team split a weekend series of matches Friday and Saturday, falling to Owens Community College (25-10, 25-20, 25-17) then bouncing back to sweep the Hocking College Hawks (25-16, 25-11, 25-21).  LCCC has won four of their last five matches for a record of 9-10 and 5-5 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

Against Owens on Friday, The Commodores were led by Vanecia Billings (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) and Kamie Reeser (Amherst, Ohio/Elyria HS) who each had 8 kills.  Billings turned in a .583 hitting percentage with only one error against the Express.  Jordan Benware (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake HS) chipped in 24 assists, while Brooklyn Ollis (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) and Annalysia Alston (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) led in digs with 11.

The Commodores bounced back the following morning with a win against Hocking at home.  After LCCC controlled the first two sets against the Hawks, they found themselves down in the middle of the third set.  Hocking had control, leading 18-13 when the Commodores called a timeout.  Out the timeout, the Commodores dished out a 12-3 run to the take the third set and get the sweep.

MJ Blair (Lorain, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) led in kills with seven and hit for .500 for the match. Benware led again in assists with 18, while Alston turned in another team lead in digs with nine.

LCCC travels to Edison State Community College this Wednesday to take on the Chargers at 6 p.m.
