Men’s Basketball Falls to Hocking College, 86-76

January 26, 2022 - - The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team came up short against undefeated 17-0 No. 16 Hocking College (NJCAA DII), 86-76, losing to the Hawks for the second time in five days.  The Commodores fell to Hocking in Nelsonville, Ohio last Saturday, 99-75.

This go around was a little bit closer with the Hawks.  LCCC controlled the contest for most of the first half, leading by as many as 10 after a Luqman Lateef (Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw HS) three pointer with 6:33 left in the opening 20 minutes. Lateef would go on to score 10 points with two triples and a pair of free throws in his first game back in over a month.

Three other Commodores dropped double figures against the Hawks Wednesday evening.  Rod Harris (Akron, Ohio/Garfield HS) scored 26 points with 15 rebounds, had three assists and a block in a match-up against Ohio Community College Athletic Conference's other top scorer in Hocking's Trevell Adams (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus South HS) who had a double-double of his own with a game-high 28 points, 10 rebounds and a pair of steals.  Adams leads the conference in scoring per game with 24.8 points per game.

Lem Payne (Philadelphia, Ohio/Mount Pleasant) came into the contest tied with Adams for the conference lead in totals steals but by the end of the night he would lead the OCCAC in steals with 44 after scoring 13 points with five thefts and six assists.  Quante May (Lorain, Ohio/Horizon Science Academy) was the other scorer in double figures for the Commodores with 11 points including five rebounds and four blocks.

The Commodores (8-8, 2-5) will welcome the Kent State Tuscarawas Golden Eagles to town this weekend for their last non-conference matchup of the season.  The Commodores defeated KST 28 days ago with a dramatic 17-point comeback in the final 10 minutes of the game to defeat the Golden Eagles and pick up head coach Marty Eggleston's 100th career victory, 103-98.

Tip off against the Golden Eagles is at 3 p.m. for the men's game following the women's game.  Admission is $5. LCCC Students with ID and children 10 and under get in free.
