Maxwell and Benejan Each Score 30 In Loss To Hocking College

February 3, 2024 - - The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team fell to Hocking College inside the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium Saturday afternoon despite a valiant effort from two Commodore starters—Freshmen Deonte Benejan and Jayden Maxwell--who dropped 30 points each.

Jayden Maxwell (Chicago, Ill./Buchtel CLC) - 30 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 6 steals

Deonte Benejan (Queens, N.Y./Lorain HS) - 30 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals

Tavion Pride (Cleveland, Ohio/Huron HS) - 11 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists

Abdulaziz Sesay (Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa/Limount College) - 10 rebounds

 

Recap

The Commodores (4-18, 1-11) fought hard despite getting down by double-digits in the first half.  With 2:53 left, the Commodores scraped to cut the deficit in half until a late three from Hocking (15-5, 8-1) pushed their lead back up to 11 at the break, 54-43.

 

The Hawks took advantage of their depth against the Commodores.  Hocking had 12 players play over ten minutes and had five players scoring in double figures.  The Hawks lead grew to 28 in the second half before finishing off the Commodores 115-87.

  • The Commodores shot 43% from the field, Hocking shot 53%
  • The 30 points scored by Maxwell is the second time he has scored 30+ in a game, his six steals were also a career-high
  • Benejan's 30 points were the fifth time the freshman has reached the 30-point plateau this season
  • Abdulaziz Sesay's ten rebounds is the fifth time this season the sophomore has grabbed 10+ boards
