Lady Commodores Fall to Lady Hawks

January 21, 2017 - After starting the game off slow and going down big, the Lady Commodores fought back but fell on the road at Hocking College Saturday afternoon. In their first meeting of the season, it was the Lady Hawks who would win by a final score of 78-56 and put LCCC at a 1-16 season record and 0-6 in conference play.

For LCCC their struggles on the defensive end put them in a big hole early as the Lady Hawks of Hocking College came out shooting lights out. For Hocking it was the 3 point line that was on their side as they hit a team high 18 3-pointers against LCCC. The Commodores would go down as much as 33 points before making a late game run.

"We can't afford to have slow starts like we've had in the last couple games. We're not built to come back from big leads like this" said Coach Granito following the game.

In the second half the Commodores played with more energy and seemed to play better as a unit. Leading the way for LCCC was Madi Bonner who chipped in 15 points and 3 assist while Heather Smyth had 11 points and 16 rebounds. Other production from LCCC was Carrie Carlson who had 13 points, Sami Shaw 7 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks and Tyeisha Sain with 9 rebounds.

"We played them even in the 2nd half but the first half killed us. It was too much to come back from" said Granito.

LCCC is back in action Monday as they host Walsh University's junior varsity team with a 6:00pm start time.
