Lady Commodores Win at Hocking College, 64-35, to Conclude Regular Season; Qualify For Tuesday's NJCAA Region XII Playoff With Columbus State

February 24, 2018 - The Lorain County Community College women's basketball team defeated Hocking College on Saturday, February 24, 64-35, behind the game-highs of 17 points and 14 rebounds from sophomore forward Angel Blakely (pictured) to advance to Tuesday evening's NJCAA Region XII playoff game against Columbus State at Ohio Christian University (5:30 p.m.).
 
Blakely was joined in double figures by sophomore guard Carrie Carlson with 15 points and freshman guard Hannah Oehlstrom with 12 points, four boards and three steals.  Oehlstrom connected on two three-point baskets, making her LCCC's single-season record-holder for made three-point shots (76).
 
Sophomore forward Jasmine White played a solid game with 10 rebounds, six points, five assists and a steal.  Sophomore forward Sara Kyser added six points and four rebounds.  Freshman forward Makayla Tuck also scored six points.  Sophomore forward Gloria Souter chipped in with two points and sophomore forward Sami Shaw contributed three assists.
 
LCCC solidified the win by outscoring Hocking, 24-9, in the 3rd quarter after leading at halftime, 26-13.  Carlson scored 11 of her 15 points in that deciding period.  
 
"We wanted to use this game as a springboard for Tuesday night's Region 12 playoff game, and I believe we accomplished that," Head Coach Vince Granito commented. 
 
The Hawks ended a winless season with a record of 0-23 overall and 0-14 in the OCCAC. The Lady Commodores doubled last year's win total with a 6-21 regular season mark and 2-12 in the OCCAC.  This season marks the first OCCAC victories since 2009-10 when LCCC also turned in a 2-12 conference record.
 
(NOTE: The team did not play in a league for four seasons (2010-11 through 2013-14. LCCC joined the league again in 2014-15.  For the three years from '14-'15 through '16-'17, the Lady Commodores had not been victorious in conference games (0-44).
