Men's basketball season ends against Hocking
A tremendous season for the Vikings comes to a close in Flint.
The Glen Oaks Community College men's basketball team took the court for the final time this season, running into a physical Hocking squad in the Great Lakes District A Semifinals Friday at Mott Community College in Flint.
Uncharacteristic shooting woes hampered the Vikings early and Hocking quickly built a double-digit lead en route to an 80-63 victory. The Hawks, with a deep bench and plenty of length and big bodies, stifled Glen Oaks in the first 20 minutes, holding the team to just 22 points and offensive leader Daivion Boleware to just three points in that span.
But Glen Oaks never folded even after trailing by a significant margin in the second half.
Boleware would finish with a game-high 16 points and Tylan Harris ended the day with 14. And despite Darrius Roach (13 points) and Lavonta Ash (12 points) also reaching double figures, it wasn't enough to combat a Hawks squad that had 12 players post points.
Dennis Asoro, Treshawn Cody and Chanze Amerson all recorded 11 points for Hocking (22-6), while Zion Reynolds added 10. The Hocking bench produced 57 points.
Glen Oaks, which finished the year with an 18-11 record, shot 21.6 percent (8-for-37) in the first half and 32.4 percent from the field in the second half. The Vikings were 7-for-31 (22.6 percent) from behind the arc. Hocking did the majority of its damage in the paint, shooting 51.4 percent for the game and outscoring the Vikings 50-22 down low.
Boleware and Ash ended their Glen Oaks careers with double-doubles as both pulled down 11 rebounds. Harris led the team with four assists and two steals. Boleware leaves the Vikings having scored 1,080 career points and 561 rebounds.
