Softball sweeps OCCAC awards
Two Hocking College softball players were honored this week by the Ohio Community College Athletic Conferece as Katie Hoffa and Alexia Spangler took home Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week accolades for their performances on the Hawks week-long spring trip last week in Florida.
Hoffa, who hails from Wooster, Ohio, batted .440 in the last eight games of the trip, while raking three doubles, driving in a couple of runs, and scoring five runs as she helped lead a balanced Hawks offense. The sophomore IF/OF also compiled an impressive OPS of 1.041. This is the first Player of the Week honor in Hawks softball history.
Spangler, a freshman pitcher, appeared in four games last week and posted a 3-0 record with a 2.07 ERA in those three wins. A native of Howland, Ohio, Spangler posted wins over Bryant & Stratton (WI), St. Cloud Technical & CC (MN), and Williston State College (ND). She allowed only 3 earned runs in 13 innings. This is the second week in a row that the Hawks earned pitcher of the week honors.
The Hawks, who went 5-5 down south, with two of those losses coming in the bottom of the seventh inning. Hocking is set to open its new softball complex, Hocking Field, on Saturday when the Hawks begin defense of their OCCAC Championship as they host Owens Community College in a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm ET.
