Hawks use balanced attack in 83-60 win over Glen Oaks

The Hocking College men's basketball team punched its ticket to the Great LAkes District A Tournament championship game on Friday as the Hawks dominated Glen Oaks Community College 83-60 in the semifinals at Mott Community College in FLint, MI. 

With the win the Hawks improve to 22-6 on the season and will play Bay College on Saturday for the District A Championship and a berth in the NJCAA Divsion 2 National Tournament. Bay is 27-4 and ranked 13th in the latest NJCAA Division II Top 20 rankings. The Hawks, who received votes in the last Top 20 poll, will be playing their fourth Top 20 team from Michigan this season; Hocking is 1-2 against St. Clair County (W), Mott (L), and Henry Ford (L), all coming early in the season.

Hocking took control early against GLen Oaks, who led only once in the game at 3-2 before the Hawks used a 10-0 run in the opening minutes and were on thier way to an easy and impressive postseason W. The Hawks led 41-22 at halftime and by as many as 34 points in the second half, and were up 83-50 with 2:55 left before Glen Oaks scored the final 10 points.

Hocking COach Ryan Miley was able to use his entire roster as 12 Hawks scored, inlcuding four in double figures. Freshman Treshawn Cody and Chanze Amerson came off the bench to lead the Hawks with 11 points. Cody also had a team-high rebounds.

Sophomore Dennis Osoro also tallied 11, while Freshman Zion Reynolds came off the bench to add 10. Freshman Eli Hughes chipped in nine, while sophomore Anthony Millner and freshman Sohn McGee had eight points each as the Hawks bench scored 57 of the team's 83 points.

Hocking shot 51 percent from the field, but it was the Hawks defense that took over the game, holding Glen Oaks, who finished the season 18-11, to just 27 percent shooting. It was the third straight game Hocking helf an opponent to 65 points or less.

"Our guys came out with a ton of energy and a sense of urgency today. We played 14 guys at least 10 minutes and everyone contributed," explained Coach Miley. "Everyone's focus right not is to win and not on individual stats. We need to coue out with the same energy on Sunday."
